 Christy

Hello, I'm Christy,

Welcome to Food Stamps for Horses. My love of horses began when I was a small child growing up in Niskey Lake near Atlanta, Georgia. We had a neighbor named Marilow, who would ride her horse every afternoon past our house. I'll never forget the sound of the horse's footsteps on the asphalt as she rode by. I would run as fast as I could down a long curving driveway, just to be there when she passed by. I'm sure I begged her many times for a ride, because I was so fascinated by her horse. I was just six years old when I broke my first bone while riding a pony, but that didn't deter me. When I was twelve years old, my parents surprised me with my first horse. Learning to care for and nurture that animal ultimately lead to a life-long career working with horses. When I was twenty one, I started breeding Appaloosas and a few years later I became a professional horse trainer and instructor in the equine field. I leased a barn and started the Indian Rose & Company in Plantation Acres, Florida and within 60 days I had over 20 students. After gaining considerable experience as a horse trainer and instructor, I realized the dream of a lifetime when I bought my first equine facility in Loxahatchee, Florida.

My love and devotion to these magnificent animals has been the driving force in my life. To think a horse might suffer for any reason deeply disturbs me. Considering the course of our economic times it has become apparent to me that the horse industry in all areas is in uncharted waters and is in trouble. Because of our industrialized world, the horse is no longer needed for transportation and the possibilities grow toward the horse becoming an endangered species. We as a people are being forced to reinvent ourselves and our destiny and now is the time to prepare for the horse's future. Equine lovers that are scattered across the globe in every field, stable, riding arena, horse show and trail ride must unite to infiltrate every part of the horse's life. Let's join hands everywhere to share the responsibility of a positive future together.

To all concerned individuals and organizations:

Each individual horse is our focus. Food Stamps For Horses, Inc. a non-profit organization developed to aid and enhance the efforts of individuals and organizations volunteering and donating precious time and funds. At this time many numbers of our equine friends are suffering from neglect and hunger and they're in danger of being slaughtered. Our local rescues are full and private owners are facing foreclosure and unemployment. This perfect storm is fueling a black market of slaughtering horses for human consumption and is on the rise. The wild horse population is in trouble because there isn't enough food and grazing lands to feed them. If a solution isn't found soon, this group may face a gruesome end.

Food Stamps For Horses plans to feed thousands of horses across the nation and maybe the world, in a simplistic fashion similar to food stamps for people. We are compiling lists and contacting all rescues, breed clubs, horse organizations and all of the feed stores, manufacturers of equine feed, veterinarian practices, blacksmiths and any organization dedicated to the welfare of this species. It is time to organize all of the entities mentioned, to create a super voice for the protection of these animals.
